Description: <DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><P><SPAN>The dataset, representing extent of mangroves is a derived layer principally from what was used in the first Andros Conservation Action Plan (CAP) in 2006. This original product was interpreted from LandSat photos for a 30m spatial resoultion product with classes of dense and sparse mangroves. This has also been the best representation of mangroves on Andros according to expert input. The improvement and update of land cover on Andros, including mangroves was attempted under the the Global Environmental Facility-funded Integrating Watershed and Coastal Area Management in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (GEF-IWCAM) Project in 2010. All classes from this product were derived from 5-m RapidEye imagery acquired in October and November, 2009. Per-pixel classification was performed with a supervised, Random Forests classifier. Unfortunately, for mangrove class, it was observed by locals to be less accurate than the previous product. However, extents of pine lands and coppice were classified to a much higher accuracy. Thus under the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) funded Ecosystem-based Development for Andros Island, The Bahamas project, the Natural Capital Project (NatCap) and the Nature Conservancy (TNC) made one improvement. The higher accuracy classes of pine lands and coppice from the Rapid Eye imagery derived product were subtracted from the Landsat derived mangrove class to ensure mutual exclusivity. These three classes alone make up the great majority of Andros island anyhow. The product was then dissolved.</SPAN></P></DIV>
