Description:

THIS DATA REPRESENTS AN AMALGAMATION OF TWO SEPARATE seagrass products to satisfy the need of the Natural Capital Project for use in the Ecosystem-based Development for Andros Island, The Bahamas. The first of the two products combined was the finer resolution seagrass classes of "sparse submerged vegetation" and "dense submerged vegetation" as defined by the National Coral Reef Institute (NCRI) benthic habitat product created under the Global Environmental Facility-funded Integrating Watershed and Coastal Area Management in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (GEF-IWCAM) Project. Because the finer resolution seagrass class of the NCRI product did not fully meet the spatial extent of the study area under the Ecosystem-based Development for Andros Island, The Bahamas project, it was supplemented with the seagrass classes of the contracted product between The Nature Conservancy and The Univeristy of South Florida, where USF grad students used imagery analysis of Landsat 7 and limited ground truthing data to derive three classes of seagrass - sparse, medium and dense. For the purpose of the the Ecosystem-based Development for Andros Island, The Bahamas project only, the 3 USF classes where clumped to represent only two classes to match the sparse and dense designation of the NCRI product. This was accomplished by changing the medium density class to sparse density.
